Now Accepting Nominations for 2021, 2022 Rookie of the Year
SPJ Oregon is now taking 2021 and 2022 nominations for Rookie of the Year. This award recognizes a journalist working their first year professionally in the industry.
SPJ Oregon will award a Rookie of the Year for 2021 and another for 2022. To qualify for the award, the rookie must have worked a full time position (not interns or students) for the majority of the calendar year they are being nominated for.
An eligible Rookie of the Year will reside either in or work for a media organization within the Greater Oregon region (Oregon and Clark County, Washington). Freelance journalists are eligible for the award, as are paid employees of news media organizations.
Different media organizations (TV, radio, print and digital) have different needs and products. When selecting the Rookie of the Year, the board considers the applicants’ demonstrated reporting and writing skills, creativity, news judgment, ability to work independently and as part of a team and skillful use of sources including public records.
Email the board at Info@SPJOregon.com with 3-10 samples of the journalist’s work that were created and distributed in the previous year. Please include at least one but not more than three letters of recommendation which address the applicant’s suitability for the award using the criteria listed in the section above.
The deadline to submit is 11:59 pm Friday, March 24.
