The 2020 NW Excellence in Journalism Contest Is Here

The SPJ Region 10 NW Excellence in Journalism Contest opens Wednesday, Jan. 27.

This competition is one of the largest of its kind in the nation and honors journalists across SPJ Region 10, which covers Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, and Montana.

All proceeds support the efforts of the SPJ Greater Oregon and SPJ Western Washington Professional Chapters. In Oregon, proceeds help pay for our lobbyist, who works on our behalf in Salem to improve public records law.

Like last year, we'll be using the platform OpenWater, so you'll use the same login credentials. We made some minor changes to category names. We've also added a couple of new ones. "Comprehensive Pandemic Coverage" is where newsrooms can submit multiple entries showing how they've covered the pandemic over the course of the year. We also added "Collaboration," where newsrooms can show how they've partnered with other newsrooms on the same project.

This year's deadline is set for Thursday, Feb. 25.
