Join the SPJ Oregon Board!
SPJ Oregon wants YOU to join the board.
Are you feeling the urge to serve and make journalism a better place in Oregon? Email us a brief 150- to 200-word statement of why you think you should be elected to the board.
Need a little more details before deciding to run for one of the four two-year seats on the board?
Our nine-member board of volunteers meets monthly to plan events, such as the annual regional contest, training opportunities and fundraisers to fund our lobbying efforts in Salem and internships. You’ll have a hand in deciding which projects we focus on, and which policies we’d like to address to best support journalists in our region.
SPJ Oregon's board also has a seat reserved for journalism faculty members and students. We encourage any college student actively studying or participating in journalism — whether or not your school has a journalism program — to apply for the seat. This board member serves a one-year term.
Board candidate applications are due by 11:59 pm on Friday, Sept. 13.
Voting will begin Sept. 23 and runs through Sept. 27. Elected board members will be onboarded at the 2024 fall conference in Portland (we'll have some news about that soon).
The four open seats serve two-year terms and another one-year term seat is reserved for educators and students. Email your statement of candidacy to info@spjoregon.com.
