Join the SPJ Oregon Board

Help journalists in Oregon and Washington by joining the board of directors for the Society of Professional Journalists. We have four two-year term seats open and one one-year term seat that is reserved for journalism-related faculty and students.

OK, on to the details. 

Our nine-member board of volunteers meets monthly to plan events, such as the annual regional contest, training opportunities and fundraisers to fund our lobbying efforts in Salem and internships. You’ll have a hand in deciding which projects we focus on, and which policies we’d like to address to best support journalists in our region.

SPJ Oregon's board also has a seat reserved for journalism faculty members and students. We encourage any college student actively studying or participating in journalism — whether or not your school has a journalism program — to apply for the seat. This board member serves a one-year term. 

Board candidate applications are due by 11:59 pm on Friday, Sept. 15. Voting will begin the next day and run through Sept. 22. Elected board members will be onboarded at the 2023 fall conference at Portland (we'll have some news about that soon). 

The four open seats serve two-year terms and another one-year term seat is reserved for educators and students. Email your statement of candidacy to info@spjoregon.com
