Oregon Territory SPJ Seeks Board Member
The Oregon Territory Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has an opening on its eight-member volunteer board of directors.
Oregon Territory SPJ represents journalists and media professionals in Oregon and Southwest Washington. We advocate for government transparency and public records reform, champion freedom of the press, provide networking and training opportunities, and more.
The board meets monthly by phone on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. Board member duties include planning events, fundraisers and trainings, putting on an annual conference as well helping organize the Region 10 Excellence in Journalism contest.
To apply for the open seat on the board of directors, please email spjoregon@gmail.com with the subject line: “Board of Directors Candidate.” Candidates must be SPJ members in good standing. Please include your SPJ member number, as well as a bio paragraph of no more than 150 words describing your journalistic experience and your interest in serving SPJ Oregon.
To be considered, please submit your application by Nov. 30. The board will select a candidate before its Dec. 18 meeting.
PDX Freelance Journalist Happy Hour
Kick off the holiday season with your fellow Portland-area journalists at a freelancer happy hour at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 in downtown Portland. There's no agenda and no speaker, just an opportunity to network and compare notes with your fellow freelance journalists. PNW Emerging Journalist Internship Announced
Celina Tabor has accepted an offer from The Oregonian to be the Pacific Northwest Emerging Journalist intern for summer 2020. Oregon Territory SPJ co-sponsors this internship with the Asian American Journalists Association to get a college journalist of color from Oregon a paid summer internship in an Oregon newsroom.
